Ok I must start this with; I am the wife of a retired US Army Infantryman. I have to say this government shut down scares me! I just have to say I know what it’s like to have to live on the pay for an enlisted service person. I also know what it is like to try to get a job as a military wife. It is hard! Who wants to hire someone that will be gone in one to three years added that most of the posts (at least the Army) are not smack in the middle of a big city. No generally they are in the middle of small towns and quite frankly the post provides that community with it jobs so civilians stay in those jobs and it is so hard for a spouse get one. Then you have the added pressure of a family that you tend to have to run as a single parent due to the many deployments that come over and over and no family around to help. This tends to make it so that a lot of the military personnel are the lone paycheck in the house. I just can’t get it out of my head that come Friday night that the government will shut down. This can be a financial disaster for these men and women who still by the way are working for a pay check that they will not get until the government can come to a compromise. It breaks my heart that we have this situation weighing on their minds. Think about this some where in Afghanistan, Iraq or even Korea there are soldiers who are under a stress we will never know now stressing over whether their family will be able to have food. I also have to say the we pay our lower enlisted soldier so little that when you go to the commissary (military grocery store) there is a WIC (government assistance for food) booth sitting outside. (The lower enlisted are the one that you see that are on the ground and we do not pay them enough.) Who will be sitting in that booth come Monday? I just think that this is horrible and have been praying that some kind of wisdom comes to the government leaders. No military should have this pressure on them they should be taken care of. No military family should go without a pay check I think the sacrifices they make of are huge. They truly are the 10 percent of us that support the troops. The 90 percent don’t wake up and feel a hardship, sacrifice while our country is at war. Please pray for our leaders. Please pray for our military and their families.
