I was so excited to get a chance to review the book MacArthur America’s General by Mitchell Yockelson. I am a huge fan of this General. I have read several books on his life and found that this book was very good. Mitchell Yockelson was very detailed. If you are a history fan this is a great book. I like that the author really takes you through his family to show just how much the military was in Mac Arthur’s blood. I love that it shows a softer side in MacArthor the family man one who loved his mother very much and his wife and son. I like that a hero can have a softer side. I also think that the fact that this books talks of his mothers love for him and what she did to help him makes him more human. I think to often we only focus on him and his military achievements and it makes him not so human. I love that Yokelson put focus on this as well. Mac Arthur was brave and heroic and thanks to him the current military still has the effects of MacArthur. I think Macarthur’s military career was also written about very well by Yockelson. The Author of this book hit on his relationship Truman. He hit on the love Macarthur had for his men the soldiers. He felt he was not above them was one of them. He was a leader the front and when the Philippines were invaded MacArthur himself had to be ordered to leave. This book takes you through the Korean War and the down fall of MacArthur. I think this book is a great book for those who love history. I encourage those who are not so much in to history to pick this book up. You can learn from history. I give this book 4 and half stars.
